4DWX Mesoscale Modeling and Data Assimilation for NSAP
ثبت نشده
چکیده
In FY05, RAL/NSAP modelers continued to work with the U.S. Army Test and Evaluation Command (ATEC), Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), Defense Advanced Research Project Agency (DARPA), and other public and industrial agencies to study and improve the 4DWX real-time four-dimensional data assimilation and forecast (RTFDDA) system. The work was focused on six areas: (a) transition to the Weather Reseach and Forecast (WRF) model, (b) increased capability for the RTFDDA, (c) improved land-surface data assimilation, (d) application and tuning for urban-scale NWP, (e) research on mesoscale data assimilation and ensemble generation, (f) research on advanced model verification techniques, and (g) research on forecast bias correction. The model system was also employed in five new applications during the year (h).

A Mesoscale Model-Based Climatography of Nocturnal Boundary-Layer Characteristics over the Complex Terrain of North-Western Utah
Nocturnal boundary-layer phenomena in regions of complex topography are extremely diverse and respond to a multiplicity of forcing factors, acting primarily at the mesoscale and microscale. The interaction between different physical processes, e.g., drainage promoted by near-surface cooling and ambient flow over topography in a statically stable environment, may give rise to special flow patter...

The general focus of this work is to explore, better understand, model and predict the interactive dynamics and variability of sub-mesoscale and mesoscale features and processes in the Philippine Straits region and their impacts on local ecosystems through i. physical-biogeochemical-acoustical data assimilation of novel multidisciplinary observations, ii. adaptive, multi-scale physical and biog...
متن کاملDevelopment of a hybrid variational-ensemble data assimilation technique for observed lightning tested in a mesoscale model
Lightning measurements from the Geostationary Lightning Mapper (GLM) that will be aboard the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite – R Series will bring new information that can have the potential for improving the initialization of numerical weather prediction models by assisting in the detection of clouds and convection through data assimilation. In this study we focus on investig...

Extended abstract 1- INTRODUCTION In the arid and semi-arid areas of Asia, dust storms occur frequently. Much progress has been made in the monitoring modeling and prediction of Asian dust storms. Dust emission is caused by wind erosion in the sensitive areas. Wind erosion is described as the transportation of soil particles by means of the wind. Soil Surface moisture is one of the most i...
